It lives!

Nara was awesome

Figured it was time for a visual rehaul.

A list of noteworthy things:

  • In January, I took my boyfriend to Tokyo. I had curry rice for the very first time and am convinced it was a divine experience. We went to Okunoshima, a six hour trip there and back. We were mauled by rabbits.
  • I have Scrivener now and have been making good progress on my novel/novella/Thing. First drafts still make me cringe, but every change I make only paves a way forward. I feel good. I feel like I’m actually armed with a machete to hack through the brush, instead of something like, you know, a twig.
  • I submitted a flash piece somewhere. Is it weird that I’m excited to receive a potential rejection? I will probably frame it.
  • My spotify playlist exploded. Ugh don’t make me list them, don’t make me list them DAMMIT: Sharon van Etten (always), Wild Nothing, Rammstein, Depeche Mode, M.I.A., Björk, Cathedrals, London Grammar, System of a Down, Neon Indian, Blouse, Echo and the Bunnymen, Pastel Ghost, Crystal Castles, Abhi//Dijon. And this band named Gesaffelstein, takes me right back to my 15-year old goth-child days, me with my spiked hair and pink fingerless gloves.
  • Netflix. And by Netflix, I mean Breaking Bad binge-watching.
  • How in the ever-loving god did I start watching anime again?
  • Hello, I’m 26 and I like Inuyasha.
  • I’m 26 and I like Samurai Champloo.
  • Don’t watch Ghost Adventures unless you want to be bored to sleep. Child, this is my advice to you.
  • My favorite director is officially Hirokazu Koreeda. Watch “Nobody Knows” twice and you will cry for eight years.
  • Bioshock 2’s multiplayer is a good stress reliever. Most days. When there’s no lag.
  • Also fun way to kill stress: lifting weights; leg press; hundreds of crunches on a big red balancing ball. I can go up to 300 now 😀
  • As of March, I went completely gluten-free for the sake of my skin. The hard part? Watching my boyfriend inhale all the food I can no longer eat: Graham crackers. Ramen. Fucking extra dark hershey bars, which are the only kind I care about.
  • I read so many good books in the past year, oh my god. Don’t read my goodreads reviews because it’s basically me throwing up fangirly rainbows and hearts.
  • Currently reading Jenine Capó Crucet’s “How to Leave Hialeah.”
  • I have so much catching up to do, and it’s not just with books. I’m getting there. I’ll get there.
  • Song playing right now: “Serpents” by Sharon van Etten. Some lyrics below:

I was lost in the world. / You wanted me to run and I climbed instead. / Searching for the answers I will never find, / but that’s ok, / I know what I’m doing this time.
